The Nissan Almera is a subcompact sedan poised to be the family car of choice in the Philippines. Sleek curves and subtle lines around the body give it a touch of class, emphasized by chrome accents in front and at the trunk. Inside the Nissan Almera, a 5-seater cabin greets you with generous head- and leg-room. The center cluster of controls gives illumination for easier readability at night, while a rear air-conditioning vent with independent control is available for the top variant. No compromise is made for its trunk space with its 490L capacity – the best in its class.
Nissan Philippines equipped the Almera with standard features such as front airbags, keyless system, brake assist, immobilizer, child protection lock plus anchor and speed sensing door locks. The Nissan Almera starts with a 1.2-liter engine with 5-speed manual transmission, while a bigger and more powerful choice comes in with a 1.5-liter engine that's either equipped with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.
Launch
The current-generation Nissan Almera was launched in the Philippines in 2013 by the then Nissan Motor Philippines Inc. (NMPI). It's one of the Nissan cars that are assembled locally in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
In November of 2015, Nissan Philippines gave the Nissan Almera a facelift which gave it an updated front and rear fascia. It’s priced as low as P630,000 during this launch, while the range-topper has a price tag of P880,000.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
The Nissan Almera is a four-door subcompact sedan that rides on the Nissan Global V platform. Its engine is mounted up front while power is sent to the front wheels, as well. There are two engine choices for the Almera, which are the 1.2-liter HR12DE 3-Cylinder DOHC and the 1.5-liter HR15DE 4-Cylinder DOHC – both are gasoline and mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.
The Almera has McPherson struts with coil springs and stabilizer bar up front, and rigid axle torsion beam setup at the rear. Front wheels have ventilated disc brakes while the rear wheels have drum brakes.

Driving Performance
Whether you like a relaxing drive or a fast-paced trip, the Almera can deliver, but with reservations. The engine is responsive and the car easily moves even with 4 people on-board and on uphill climbs.
The Almera is also gifted with a light steering feel, so maneuvering on tight city streets is easy and effortless. Although, it could have been better if the steering gets a bit heavier on the highway for a stabler cruise. Still, it stays composed even at high speeds.
Technology Features
As an entry-level vehicle from Nissan, the Almera still provides several conveniences for both the driver and the passengers. Steering wheel audio control buttons are available, as well as automatic climate control and speed-sensing door locks for the top variant. The infotainment system is a 2DIN type with auxiliary input.
The Almera is also one of the first subcompact sedans in the Philippines to get rear air-conditioning vents with a separate control.
Exterior
The Nissan Almera follows the brand’s design language, characterized by the V-Motion grille. The range-topper gets chrome accents, while the lower variants have mostly matte black parts. The Almera has halogen lights, as well, and sits on 15-inch alloys.
Interior
The Almera has a light-colored interior cabin theme, partnered with curvy shapes and circular vents. With that said, Nissan’s subcompact employs an airy and cool cabin. You can also factor in that the Almera has one of the biggest interior spaces in its class, plus the trunk space defaults at 490L, which is the biggest among subcompact sedans.
Pros & Cons
What you’ll like in the Nissan Almera are its immense interior space and its notably low fuel consumption. On our review, we were able to get 21.3 km/L in this vehicle during highway drives at 90 km/h. The rear air-conditioning vents are also a plus factor for the Nissan subcompact sedan.
On the other hand, you might not like the fact that the 4-speed automatic transmission of the Almera doesn’t have a manual mode. Nissan also used a lot of hard plastics in its interior, though they are masked in a beige color.
